Saving the world before bedtime

We had a very interesting week last week. Paul is a member of the national bone marrow association and for about two years he has been a match for someone, but he was never called to give bone marrow. Well this year he was finally picked so we got a mini vaction so he could help cure a luekemia patient. We were put up in a Marriott hotel, got to order room service, and Kenzie and I got to go to the zoo while Paul was hooked up to a machine for 6 hours taking his blood stem cells. It made him really sick and he had to take injections all week to increase his cell count, but he says if you can cure one person than it is all worth it. He is doing fine now and we will find out if this lady is going to be ok.
Kenzie at the hotel
The meerkats, which she named "Kenzie"
Penguins!

Kenzie is obsessed with snakes now, but she didn't want this one getting her feet!
Ever since the zoo, she carries her toy snake around like a baby. Who needs dolls when you have a snake?!

A few Thoughts...

As we are coming to the end of what has been an extremly long, tiring, stressful, and just awful job and living experience, I have a few thoughts on life and philosophies to live by:

1. Old people are some of the meanest people I know, period. Yesturday an older guest came to the office and actually threw down a pair of his pants and demanded that I send them out for dry cleaning. (Hmmm, yes that is a regular service offered here at the Days Inn) When I refused and told him to go to the laundry mat himself, he looked at me and said "Wow, you just can't do anything right can you?" See what I mean? MEAN PEOPLE!!!

2. Mormons are the rudest, most stuck up, and demanding people I know. Yes this is a sad truth, but a truth none the less.... " Do you have an LDS discount? Where is the milk? What, no eggs? How dare you serve coffee in an LDS town, it is an insult! Watch my grandkids while we go to the temple. I Demand 25% off because we only got three towels! You have smoking rooms, why? I have six kids under the age of 5 and four adults, why can't we all share one room? There is a wrinkle in the sheet so I am assuming it has not been changed, so change it and the other bed as well just in case. ( This list could go on and on, but let's stop so we can still have faith that not all mormons are bad, and yes I am aware that I am one :)

3. Other people's kids are the most annoying in the world. They spill hot chocolate all over the lobby because their parents let them get it 10 times a day unsupervised. They take all of the breakfast ( eyes bigger than stomach statement is definately a factor here) They play football around the cars and wonder why I have to go confiscate their ball. They run around at all hours of the night ( Is there some kind of "Let your children run free" parenting rule that I don't know about?)

4. College students are stupid. (which is kindof an ironic statement)
Student: Are you guys hiring?
Stephanie: Yes, it is part time, and you have to be willing to work Sundays.
Student: Oh I can't do that thanks.

Does everyone think that the world should stop on Sundays?!? I realize it is ideal to not work on Sundays, but good grief the amount of students that blatently refuse is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. I mean come on, Deseret Book can only have so many employees which means you are going to have to work on Sunday!

I have also seen 4 people in the last year get hit by cars by the hotel from not looking and running across the street, one of those people actually died which was horrible but could have easily been prevented.

More stupid college student quotes: "We are doing a scavenger hunt, can we have some shampoos and towels?" " Can we use your pool? Why not?" (I had some college girls, wearing string bikinis in the pool who lied to me and said their dad was a guest here, when I went to check on the name they grabbed their stuff and ran!) "A room is how much? Thats ridiculous, I can't afford that! Don't you have a BYUI Discount?

5. Hotel owners just want to make money. (This one is obvious, we don't need to elaborate.)

6. One nice gesture can make your whole day: I have had people leave me big tips and tell us how great we are. Some people talk to us for hours and even offer us careers when we leave here. Little moms visiting thier kids here will give me presents for helping them. It only takes one nice person to make the tons of bad ones dissappear.

Misc: Once caught two college students hiding in a storage closet making out.
Once caught two college nerds playing D & D in the storage closet.
Got threatened by a man because his key cards wouldn't work, so I yelled back.
Have saved two abandoned dogs here.
Have made life long friends here.
Am more than ready to move from here, 12 days and counting!

Memory Tag

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.

Happy Birthday To ME!!!!!

I'm 24! I'm getting so old! Ok not really, but still it's weird. So I had a fantastic Birthday! My mom got me a sewing machine, which is in the mail, so I got all kinds of sewing stuff to get me started. I have never sewed before so I am excited to learn how. Paul and I went to see the movie "Get Smart" which is just hilarious, I highly recommend it. Most of my sewing stuff was given to me by Paul and his mom so I am all set to go!
This is my fabulous cake, cream cheese frosting and fresh fruit!
Fabric for my purses, Kenzie's dress, my sewing box, and a great dvd!
Sewing supplies in my box
My first two patterns!
My new earthy dishes that are really pretty!

Fourth of July

Well our Fourth of July was ok, even though we didn't get to go to the fireworks. Idaho Falls has the biggest show in the West and I just love it, but we had to of course work so no fireworks this year. We did get the morning shift off and started to go to the parade, but we found a street sale instead where I bought Mckenzie a tent that comes with a sleeping bag and a life size doll. It's way cute, kindof like a slumber party in a box! So we all played with it during the day and barbequed lovely steaks for dinner. Mckenzie calls it her house. We can't wait to move and have her get her own room for her "house"!

My Therapy

Ok, I am having a really bad, horrible, no good week, and to keep from losing it I get to vent on my blog for some much needed therapy. So....we are pretty sure that our new owners at our hotel are trying to make us miserable so we will quit and they can have our apartment for a breakfast room and place for the maintenace guys to live. He has even said to me before that they don't believe in firing people ( especially when they have no grounds to because we are the best managers this place has ever had!) but they do believe in making people miserable to make them quit on their own. I could just go on and on and on and on about how many things they are doing to make us miserable, trying to get us to take care of everything that is not in our contract because they don't want to deal with anything at all (It's Forth of July weekend and the pool isn't even working, do you know how many people are going to yell at us over that?!?!) And we are working an unheard of 136 hours a week because they won't let us hire any stinking employees to help us!!! CAN WE SAY AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, now that I have screamed a bit, it seems we have a friend who can get Paul a pretty good job and we have a couple nice apartments that are possible candidates for a new home, so we are hoping that in the next two weeks we can rid ourselves of this terrible place! Imagine being able to work a lovely 8 hours a day as apposed to 16, I don't know what to do with all the extra time! Let's hope everything goes according to plan. Ok, now for my uplifting therapy I'm going to be all Julie Andrews and List a few of my favorite things to remind me that not all things are bad...
